Have you ever heard that you don't need to get more than 20 minutes of cardio workout a day to reap the benefits? Well, the same applies to tackling clutter. I've actually adopted this method myself because, while I love the way I feel after "purging", I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the idea of it. Splitting it up into 20 minute tasks is easy peasy. And, wait for it... you might be on a roll and feel like you can do another 20!
Focus on one room at a time; let's say the kitchen. Day 1 you tackle the junk drawer (we all have at least one!). Next day, the plastic food storage cabinet (do you really need a lid with no bottom?). Toss the lone rangers! Day 3 you go through the linens and get rid of the tattered dish towels, stained placemats, burnt potholders, etc... Day 4 you edit out the coffee mugs that seem to multiply over time. And so on, until that room is done (well almost). Now that all the cupboards have been edited, see if you can move some of those items off the countertop! Who cares if it takes a week to get through a particular room? The thought of everything that needs to be done can be too overwhelming, so most folks end up doing nothing. By breaking it down into small manageable tasks you will have a sense of accomplishment every day! Kudos to you!!
